A Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card is essential for your safety while trekking in Nepal. This system maintains a secure, computerized database with important details about trekkers, including personal information, trekking routes, permits, and duration. In case of emergencies, search and rescue operations can be conducted efficiently using this information.
The TIMS database is valuable for government agencies, tourism organizations, diplomatic missions, and research institutions. It also helps in regulating unauthorized trekking activities, ensuring better management of trekking services. By implementing TIMS, Nepal promotes sustainable and responsible mountain tourism, benefiting trekkers, guides, and the trekking industry as a whole.
At Summit International Travels and Tours, we provide TIMS cards to our clients after collecting the necessary information and processing the required permits. A TIMS card is mandatory for trekking in Nepal, except in specific cases:
Trekkers with government-issued mountaineering permits (such as those from the Nepal Mountaineering Association) do not need a TIMS card.
Travelers visiting restricted areas require permits issued by the Department of Immigration, which we obtain on their behalf.
Foreigners invited by diplomatic missions for official purposes, traveling at their own risk, are exempt from TIMS requirements.
International residents in Nepal with a valid resident visa and a recommendation from the concerned government department do not require a TIMS card.
Important: To obtain a TIMS card, you must provide a copy of your passport and two passport-sized photos.
